About The Crusty DM

I’ve been playing and running tabletop RPGs for more than 20 years, starting with Dungeons & Dragons back in high school and sticking with the hobby through several editions, countless characters, and more bad decisions involving mysterious doors than I can reasonably count.

Over the years, I’ve come to believe that tabletop games have something to offer just about everyone. They give us a place to be creative, spend time with people we enjoy, tell memorable stories, and escape the grind of everyday life for a few hours.

That idea shapes the way I run my games.

My style leans heavily toward exploration, tactical combat, puzzles, and cinematic storytelling, with plenty of room for roleplaying without requiring everyone at the table to be an improv actor. I like an organized game, a story that keeps moving, and encounters where player choices actually matter.

I’m especially passionate about welcoming newer players. You don’t need years of experience, encyclopedic knowledge of the rules, or a shelf full of sourcebooks to sit at my table. If you’re willing to learn, cooperate with the group, and roll some dice, you’re ready to play.

I’m based in Arlington, Texas and run both online and in-person games throughout the DFW area, including private events, one-shots, and ongoing campaigns.

When I’m not behind the DM screen, there’s a pretty good chance I’m in the kitchen cooking or baking. I’ve always thought the two hobbies have a lot in common: good ingredients, careful preparation, patience, practice, and eventually gathering a bunch of people around a table to enjoy the result.

That’s really what The Crusty DM is about.
